German Kammer-Kirsch distillery presents two limited edition whiskies with special cask finishing

For seven years now, a limited special edition of the Black Forest Rothaus Single Malt Whisky has been released at the end of each calendar year. The special feature is the cask types that are used to finish the spirit, which is initially matured in ex-Bourbon barrels. This year, friends of the popular Black Forest whisky can look forward to single malts with a finish in Portuguese Madeira and French Banyuls sweet wine casks.

Edition 2018 Madeira Wood Finish

This single malt, matured for an initial year in ex-Bourbon barrels, has been finished in freshly emptied Madeira casks since April 2016 and bottled at 54.8% abv cask strength.

Nose: warm aromas of honey with a pleasant sweetness

Palate: raisins, oranges, toffee, oak wood and spices

Finish: elegant with sweet Madeira notes

Edition 2018 Banyuls Cask Finish

This single malt matured initially for one year in ex-Bourbon barrels and also received a finish in freshly emptied Banyuls casks since April 2016, a sweet wine from the southern French Mediterranean region of Banyuls-sur-Mer. This special edition was also bottled at 54.6% abv cask strength.

Nose: fragrance of stewed fruits and fine spice

Palate: spicy sweet aromas of dark chocolate and caramel, as well as fine wood notes with a hint of forest berry jam

Finish: perfect balance with sweet spice

The Black Forest Rothaus Single Malt is a cooperation between the Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus, where the malt is mashed and fermented, and Kammer-Kirsch distillery, a fruit distillery based in Karlsruhe, which distills the final "beer" twice in small copper stills.
