Port Charlotte Islay Single Malt: new design and new products

Bruichladdich Distillery presents the new portfolio of its peated single malts

There are new Port Charlotte Single Malt releases ahead, so actual news of the Islay distillery Bruichladdich announce. And those will be more than “just” new releases; we can look forward to a complete relaunch of the core range of those heavily peated whiskies.

Dark colours, kind of edged shape

The new design of the future Port Charlotte Malts is conspicuous: the bottles that up to now have been made of clear glass will now show in a dark green. Black is the colour of the boxes and the lables and so the whole range will get a unique colour design. The different products will only be set apart from each other by the inscription. The shape of the bottles will also change and will show a more edged design.

But the most important thing won’t change: the heavily peated style of the Port Charlotte. 40 ppm form the character of the Islay malt of which four bottlings will be released during this year.

The New Four of the Port Charlotte range

Back in the core range will be the Port Charlotte 10 end of May. Being available as limited releases so far the bottling with age statement and 50 % ABV will further on be a standard release. The Port Charlotte Scottish Barley will be withdrawn from sale instead.

The second new PC that is announced to get on market in June is the Port Charlotte Islay Barley Vintage 2011, also bottled with 50 % ABV. It was made from 100% Islay barley, sourced from three selected local farmers and matured in the warehouse next to Loch Indaal – this is the “terroir matter” bottling of Port Charlotte that already had been represented by Port Charlotte Islay Barley Single Malts.

New in retail stores in autumn will be the Port Charlotte MRC:01. This vintage 2010 was produced from 100 % Scottish barley and matured in Bordeaux casks, bottled with 59,2 % ABV.

Also in autumn the Port Charlotte MC:01 will be released, bound for the travel retail. This is also a vintage bottling, but from 2009, made from 100% Scottish barley and matured in Marsala casks.
