Plans for whisky distillery at Saxa Vord on the Shetland Islands developed
On search for investors to raise £4.5 mio
With his Shetland Reel Gin Stuart Nickerson, co-founder and director of Shetland Distillery Company, has been very successful for some years. But he never lost sight of his origin plans to build a whisky distillery at Saxa Vord on Unst – the most northern of Scotland. Now these plans have been given a more concrete form as Shetland News reported.
Stuart Nickerson has been part of the whisky business for some decades. He worked in executive positions for Diageo, Edrington and William Grant, was managing director at Glenglassaugh and director at GlenWyvis. He supports his daughter Jennifer and her husband building up their Tipperary Boutique Distillery in Irland and has been working as an independent bottler of whisky. He didn’t produce this whisky himself, but the situation will change soon when his plans to build a whisky distillery on the site of the Shetland Distillery Company will be realized.
The company needs £4.5 mio to fulfill these plans according to Stuart Nickerson and his consultant Johnston Carmichael. The equipment for the whisky distillery will be integrated in the building of the existing gin distillery. First step of the investment will be to increase this gin production by installing another still. The demand for Shetland Reel Gin is high and even growing higher: Recently Lidl added the gin to their portfolio.
