New release Jim Beam Double Oak presented

Twice barreled for more intensive aromas

Jim Beam Double Oak is a new whisky that was added to Beam’s core range. The name signalizes that the maturation of this whiskey happened in two barrels. But these barrels aren’t different barrels as sherry or winebarrrels, they stuck to American white oak: After the first maturation in new charred white oak barrels the bourbon is transferred to other charred barrels. There’s a little difference between the two casks: The first barrels are called new charred oak barrels as the Bourbon law requests, but regarding the second barrels Beam doesn’t speak of new ones. So may these have been refill barrels and can the Jim Beam Double Oak be called a Kentucky Straight Bourbon?

Jim Beam Double Wood carries intensive aromas

The repeated contact with fresh charred oak enables the Jim Beam Double Oak to interact again with the wood. More intensive aromas of caramel, vanilla and oak as well as a darker color can be suspected. If you want to convince yourself of these aromas: the Jim Beam Double Oak has been released and is on market!

Not the first double oaked bourbon

We are used to terms like “double maturation”, “finish” or “double wood” on the labels of Scottish single malts but what about this method of maturation in relation to bourbons? If you are a bourbon fan you will probably know the Woodford Reserve Double Oaked which has been matured in exactly that way. Interesting as well: In October 2015 Jim Beam filed a Notice of Opposition to the United States Patent and Trademark Office against Brown-Forman’s application of a trademark „Woodford Reserve Double Oaked“. They state “Double Oaked” could only be regarded as a descriptive term for an aging process, but not be a part of a trademark.
