Ledaig 19 Years Marsala Cask Finish and Tobermory 21 Years were released. The whisky for these two new bottlings was matured during about two decades - two decades that have seen a lot happen at Tobermory Distillery on the Isle of Mull.

After having been matured in ex-Bourbon casks the smoky whisky Ledaig 19 Years Marsala Cask spent several months Marsala wine casks and was bottles with 51% ABV.

Tasting notes of the Ledaig 19 Years Marsala Cask

Nose: Fascinating balance of black pepper and smokiness with hints of dessert wine, dried fruits, citrus toffee and delicate ginger and cloves.

Palate: great sweetness, notes of citrus, berries and grapes, sweet toffee and hints of dark chocolate develop to end up in an intensive peat explosion of black pepper and campfire smoke

Finish: long-lasting, pepper, smoke with a fruity twist

Tobermory 21 Years Manzanilla Cask Finish

20 years of maturation in 9 ex-Bourbon casks were followed by a finish in Marsala sherry casks. The single malt whisky was bottled with 53.8% ABV.

Tastingnotes of Tobermory 21 Years Manzanilla Cask Finish

Nose: Hints of dried fruits, pears, lemons, toffee, spiced orange, leather and oak.

Palate: dry and lightly oily. Lemons and dried fruits; hints of coffee and bitter chocolate; intensive oak and subtile vanilla notes with spiced orange.

Finish: dry and long-lasting with hints of lemons, dried fruits and spices.

Since the distillery was founded in 1788 in the heart of the isle’s capital Tobermory it has seen good times and hard times. Periods of mothballing alternated with times of re-openings. Since the company of Burns Stewart Distillers took over the distillery in 1993 Tobermory Distillery has attracted more and more attention wordwide with its labels Tobermory Single Malt Whisky (unpeated) and Ledaig Single Malt Whisky (unpeated).

The two new limited releases Ledaig 19 Years Marsala Cask Finish und Tobermory 21 Years Manzanilla Cask Finish are the last once before the distillery stops production for a longer time, maybe up to 2 years. Comprehensive renovation is necessary. But this doesn`t probably mean there won’t be further releases during that time.
