Amounts of whisky from three closed distilleries included in this Blue Label special edition

The launch is announced for October: Diageo will release the second edition of its series “Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare”. This time Port Ellen malt forms the heart of the exclusive blend the press release informs and also reveils the other “Ghost and Rare” distilleries: Caledonian and Carsebridge represent the closed ghost distilleries in addition to Port Ellen. The “Rare“ amounts in this Blue Label are from Mortlach, Dailuaine, Cragganmore, Blair Athol und Oban.

Master Blender Jim Beveridge describes the flavor of Johnny Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Port Ellen, bottled with 43,8% vol, as follows: “‘Ghost’ whiskies from Caledonian and Carsebridge add layers of creamy, vanilla sweetness whilst rare malts from Mortlach, Dailuaine, Cragganmore, Blair Athol and Oban deliver rolling waves of waxy citrus, rich malt and tropical fruit flavours - all perfectly balanced by the distinctive maritime smokiness of Port Ellen that lingers in the long and warming finish.”

The first blend of this series is the Johnny Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Brora, released end of 2017. It includes amounts of whisky from the ghost distilleries Brora, Pittyvaich and Cambus and the rare malts Royal Lochnagar, Clynelish, Glenkinchie, Glenlossie and Cameronbridge.
