This year's Lochlea Harvest Edition released

Lochlea Harvest Edition Second Crop is high in Port Cask Whisky

The Lochlea farm distillery only processes its own grain. The seasonal releases, a series of small batch bottlings, are dedicated to the seasonal change of the year in the fields: "Sowing" in spring, "Harvest" in summer, "Fallow" in autumn and "Ploughing" in winter. With the Lochlea Harvest Edition Second Crop, the young distillery, which is based in the Scottish Lowlands south of Glasgow, now presents the second edition of the autumnal release.

Lochlea Harvest Edition Second Crop is a marriage of whisky from port casks, first-fill bourbon casks and STR barriques. The press release emphasises the high proportion of port casks, to which the single malt owes, among other things, a great creaminess, while the STR casks (wine casks whose inner layer of wood has been thinly removed and which have then been re-toasted and re-charred ) added peppery notes.

Producer's tasting notes for the Lochlea Harvest Edition Second Crop

Nose: Dates, ripe red grapes, thick-cut marmalade.

Palate: Pink peppercorns and dried fruit.

Finish: A beautiful lingering creamy finish.

The whisky was bottled without chill filteration and at natural colour with an alcohol content of  46% vol.
