Nosing:
Smoke, but not overly medicinal, more like coal fire. Sugary aroma. Background lemon juice.
Taste:
Initial peat hit, which transitions immediately into a more woody smoke flavour. Salted caramel, Black pepper
Finish:
Medium to long, residual peat smoke and black pepper.
Comment:
This is a relatively young release by Islay standards, but its age doesn't necessarily stand out in a bad way. The nose reminds me a bit of Caol Ila, but with less significant citrus. On the palate it has a nice level of peatiness, though if you're a fan of heavily peated malts this won't be your bag, it is significantly less peated than other mainstream Islay malts. The finish is intense and quite long, which is also good. However it is a bit pricey for what it is when the competition is taken into account. A solid OK.
