Nosing:
Vanilla toffee, and stewed fruits, smells a lot sweeter than it tastes.
Taste:
Arrives sweet and transitions into tartness. Woody and spicy.
Finish:
Medium long, dry and oaky, retains a little sweetness.
Comment:
This is one of those malts that plays it a little safe. The nose is very sweet and pungent with caramel, something which I'm more used to coming across in very young whiskies like Glenglassaugh Revival, Fortunately the added strength of 46% makes the taste intense enough to ensure that there's something to appreciate here on the palate. It is however, fairly simplistic and to the point. That said, it isn't an expensive bottle, and I'm sure its a popular style with a lot of people, just not setting my world on fire. 3.5/5
