1386) BenRiach, 1995/2018, 22YO, Cask #7383, Batch 15, Peated, Olorosso Butt
N- Sourish mash apple. Greets with quite lovely dried fruits smoke and leather pouch. Peat comes with weight, chocolate and honey. Moving towards earthy with oak kick in and swamp the rest. Some sour berries jam, candy smokes whiff thru, but always feinty, also peeled onion and fresh leafs. (86/20)
P- Bold but stiff, oak driven with tad overflowing oxidized notes. Feel earthy, stale saltiness that not swimming far. The familiar sweet olorosso wood smokes and fresh leather. But fruits struggling to make their stand. Still with candy notes lurking. (86/20)
F- Medium long, dried fruit pudding. Lightened up eventually, but still feel like sucking on wood. Water might help on this one. Always hard to rate a below par single cask, the rarity on the offering are appreciated and to make up for the shortfall. Would surely at a lower mark if this is a AS bottling. (85/19)
B/B- 85/19 Overrun with tired oak. May be it is just me.
Weighted Rate:- 78pt
