Nosing:
Candied Fruit peel, orange pineapple. Mixed dried fruits, raisins. Not as loud and overbearing as a lot of cask strength sherry matured whiskies.
Taste:
Full bodied, not overly sweet arrival. Lots of orange peel. Spicy oak, oily texture. Ginger develops.
Finish:
Medium to long, similar flavour profile to the palate, but there's a menthol/mint note that comes through towards the end.
Comment:
I'm a fan of the Arran distillery in general, and this in my opinion is a pretty solid release. There's some good quality casks involved, and it doesn't come across as an overly young release, everything is pretty well integrated with no rawness or particular youthfulness on show. It's priced reasonably, and well presented. Would I pick it up again over a Benriach cask strength? I'm not sure. I think the other NAS releases of Arran are a more compelling option than this.
83/100
