All tasting notes
13. Oct 2020
Nosing:
Port notes show through. Intense raisin. Mixed candied peels. Leather, treacle, dark sugars. Fresh black berries.
Taste:
Intense arrival. Balanced sweetness. There's a pleasing sour note, blood orange. Concentrated citrus juice flavours. Black pepper. More of those dark berries.
Finish:
Very long and mouth coating. Residual dried fruit and spice. Berry jam. There's a focussed tannin component reminiscent of red wine.
Comment:
This for me is very close to excellent. The nose is interesting, but quite tight initially, like sniffing a mystery pot of dark jam. On the palate it's exceptionally intense, almost tasting over extracted. It really needs some water to calm it down. The acidic sour note is a nice balance to the background sweetness. I can't help but feel it's a little over intense to be honest. The finish is excellent, showing clear wine cask influence and a lot of staying power. Not quite as good as some of the other cask finish series from Arran, but not bad at all.
81/100
